As the city of Sibiu considers the construction of a new theatre complex, architects and designers of theatre spaces tried to find answers to questions such as: How do our buildings and environments shape our experience? How do our arts buildings impact performers, tourism, urban development, community pride, and identity?

As part of its mission to bridge art and architectural design in an attempt to redefine the future of our urban environments, Therme Forum engaged world-class architects, designers, artists and arts leaders in a dialogue about the relationship between theatrical arts and their buildings, and how this relationship is affected by, and impacts community.

The panelists included famous architects, such as Kengo Kuma (Kengo Kuma and Associates, Japan) and Nils Fischer (Zaha Hadid Architects, UK), as well as representatives of several globally emblematic performing arts spaces, like Joe Melillo (Brooklyn Academy of Music, USA) or Annette Mees (Royal Opera House Covent Garden, UK).
