In light of a growing awareness regarding the importance of stillness and reflection in contemporary life, the 2020 edition of E.A.T., Silent – Listen, explored the many aspects and relationships of silence and listening. Never has it been more urgent to rethink how we live, and to build cities that generate space for nature and for silence.

How can we enable cities to grow sustainably to include human-centred design, including spaces for silence and meditation? And how do we ensure our cities grow in harmony with the natural world?

Responding to these questions, this Therme Think Tank gathered renowned figures from contemporary art and design to reflect on Therme Art’s work with key partners including the Serpentine Gallery, as well as its ongoing commissions programme. Proceedings were anchored by discussions regarding the multidisciplinary approach needed for the reintegration of nature into twenty-first century life, and its power in the development of more creative cities.
