On the occassion of the reopening of Therme Erding’s doors to the public, following an extensive renovation of key areas Therme, VitalOase, Vital & Sauna and Entry Foyer, Therme Art presented Meadow by studio DRIFT as one of two new site-specific artworks that integrate seamlessly into the architectural design and thermal bathing experience.

Installed within the Foyer as the first experience that visitors encounter, Meadow is an upside-down landscape and kinetic sculpture composed of mechanical flowers that open and close in a poetic choreography. Commissioned by Therme Erding, the installation features 38 flowers honouring the founder of Therme Erding, the late German architect Josef Wund (born 1938), symbolically representing his values: ethics, a spirit of innovation, and the close connection between nature, art and human wellbeing.

The installation evokes the impermanence of the changing seasons and the sensational character of natural growth processes. Responding to the presence of visitors as if they were the sun to a blooming flower, its robotic blossoms unfold through a play of light and coloured fabric, simulating a botanical creature that draws viewers into a state of symbiosis.

The work echoes Therme Group’s belief that wellbeing begins with living in alignment with nature, offering both inspiration and ecological insight while encouraging guests to reflect on their symbiotic relationship with the natural world.
